May 3rd- Transitions As summer nears there are natural transitions taking place.  There is light at bedtime, longer stretches of activity, growth spurts and endings which make way for vacations and new stages of development.  There can be joy and excitement in these seasonal changes. Transitions can also be more subtle and follow the rhythm of daily life. There are shoes to get on, or play to end, or baths to take.  There are people who stay and people who go, usually this is true most days. Some people return quickly and others stay away for long periods of time. There is the cognitive understanding of time which is always relevant to age and stage of development.  A day for a very young child can feel long, mixed up, and hard to track or predict. This workshop is about identifying transitions and supporting children by creating partnerships during times of change, both small and grand.

Saturday Workshops

The word discipline conjures up punitive memories or strategies for grown-ups. Sometimes a child’s behavior can feel very difficult to address with compassion.  Behavior can be repetitive and push the boundaries and competencies of adults. A child’s behavior can be powerful and their ability to manage their emotions can be filled with deep worries, tears, hitting or testing.  Behavior will be explored within the context of the message within, developmental stages of growth, the nervous system, and nurturing emotional regulation. This workshop will expand how best to really understand and help children calm, building their capacity to listen, wait, trust they are listened to, problem solve, and express how they feel and what they need becoming young partners in the family experience.  Presented by Carol Castanon and Gail Topping

We want to empower parents by reinforcing the fact that all parents are valuable members of our communities and capable of nurturing strong and secure beginnings for themselves and their children. We always have extra hands at our center to supervise babies and children, so bring your baby along!
